PDH: 14 hrs
Price: $84.00

This engineering continuing education course presents guidance for selecting and designing foundations and associated features for buildings, retaining structures, and machinery. Foundations for hydraulic structures are not included. Foundation design differs considerably from design of other elements of a structure because of the interaction between the structure and the supporting medium (soil and/or rock).

We will be covering Army Corps of Engineers document "Procedures For Foundation Design Of Buildings And Other Structures"

Topics Covered:

• Identification and Classification of Soils and Rock
• Engineering Properties of Soil and Rock
• Field Exploration
• Settlement Analysis
• Bearing -Capacity Analysis
• Dewatering and Groundwater Control
• Slope Stability Analysis
• Foundation Type Selection
• Spread Footings and Mat Foundations
• Deep Foundations and Drilled Piers
• Pile Foundations
• Expansive Soils
• Retaining Walls and Excavation Support Systems
• Foundations on Fill and Backfilling
• Stabilization of Subgrade Soils
• Foundations and Frost Penetration
