The purpose of this course is to provide guidelines for calculation of the bearing capacity of soil under shallow and deep foundations supporting various types of structures and embankments. This course is intended as a guide for determining allowable and ulti- mate bearing capacity. It is not intended to replace the judgment of the design engineer on a particular project. This course applies to HQUSACE/OCE elements, major subordinate commands, districts, laboratories, and field operating activities.
We will be covering Army Corps of Engineers document "Bearing Capacity Of Soils" chapters 1-4. In these chapters we will be discussing non-load related design considerations, soil parameters, and shallow foundations.
