The purpose of this pdh continuing education course is to provide guidelines for calculation of the bearing capacity of soil under shallow and deep foundations supporting various types of structures and embankments. This pdh course is intended as a guide for determining allowable and ultimate bearing capacity. It is not intended to replace the judgment of the design engineer on a particular project. This course applies to HQUSACE/OCE elements, major subordinate commands, districts, laboratories, and field operating activities.
We will be covering Army Corps of Engineers document "Bearing Capacity Of Soils" chapters 5. In this chapter we will be discussing deep foundations, drilled shafts, and driven piles.
