Earth Fault Protection

Author:
Velimir Lackovic, Electrical Engineer
Course #2025007
PDH: 2 hrs
Price: $20.00

Course Description:

Fault statistic suggests that earth faults are dominating fault type. Therefore, earth fault protection is of great importance in electrical networks. The type of the used earth fault protection depends primarily on the type of the earthing method. This course describes protection principles for solidly (effectively), reactance, high resistance and resonance grounded electrical systems.

This course is suitable for electrical engineers and technicians with a desire to understand the fundamentals of earth fault protection. Presented details cover issues related to ground protection technical implementation. Upon successful completion engineers will be able to address key earth fault protection concepts, terms and schemes.

To receive PDH credit for this course, the student must pass a multiple-choice quiz consisting of 12 questions.

Learning Objectives::

This course teaches the following specific knowledge and skills:
• Solidly earthed system fault protection
• Restricted earth fault protection (REF)
• Directional comparison schemes
• Current reversal
• Reactance earthed system fault protection
• High resistance earthed system fault protection
• Resonance earthed system fault protection
